Toughened Prepreg System with Public Allowables for Primary Structures

|

Advanced composite materials are invaluable in the aerospace industry as the market continues to grow with ongoing demand for commercial aircraft, a stable defense sector and emerging aerospace programs.

Advanced composite materials are invaluable in the aerospace industry as the market continues to grow with ongoing demand for commercial aircraft, a stable defense sector and emerging aerospace programs. Composite materials offer improvement in impact and fatigue performance, strength and weight. While material performance is key as manufacturers require lighter, stronger structures, it is equally important to consider factors that enable manufacturing efficiencies and address the market’s supply chain challenges.

Toray Composite Materials America’s 3900 prepreg system is a proven material that enabled the large-scale adoption of composite materials in the aerospace industry. It has demonstrated success in multiple applications for more than 25 years.

In this webinar, attendees will learn about Toray’s highly toughened prepreg system, its unique properties, factors that allow for flexible processing, the impact of available design databases and digital design tools on time to market and a solution to ongoing supply chain challenges.

Agenda:

  • Thermoset material solution for primary aerospace structures
  • Streamlining certification and development with public allowable databases, modeling and simulation
  • Vertically-integrated supply chain and large-scale production for improved time to market

Presenter 1:

Jeff Cross

Director of Business Development, Aerospace

Jeff Cross is the director of business development for aerospace at Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. with over 30 years of experience in aerospace composite manufacturing and materials processing. He started his career in 1988 with Bell Helicopter working in MR&D, focused on innovative tooling and manufacturing processes required for composite fabrication. From Bell, Jeff led the advanced development group at Rockwell International. This group was responsible for DoD prototype projects such as the Tier II Global Hawk wing design and build, NASP composite cryogenic tanks and titanium matrix composite structures. In the early 2000s, Jeff joined Ciba Geigy as an application engineer where he moved into a technical sales role with a focus on aerospace tooling, infusion/RTM resins and processes for structural components.

Presenter 2:

Damon Call

Technical Services Manager

Damon Call leads a team of engineers and scientists to solve customer issues and research solutions for future customer demands. With more than 15 years of experience in composites — 11 at Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. — he has been involved in all aspects of the business, delivering high-quality materials and innovative technologies to our customers. His personal focus is high-speed automation to understand the relationship between the material and processes required for next-generation composite structures produced at high rates.
