When is the Capital Spending Survey conducted?
The Capital Spending Survey is conducted by Gardner Intelligence every July, usually resulting in a new set of reports available in October.
How is the Capital Spending Survey data collected?
Gardner intelligence creates two Capital Spending Surveys – a metalworking survey and a plastics processing survey. A paper version of one of those surveys is packaged with July issues of Gardner Business Media’s Modern Machine Shop and Plastics Technology publications. It is delivered to a select group of approximately 65,000 total subscribers, primarily in company management positions. Invitations are also sent via email. The survey asks respondents to provide dollar amounts of anticipated spending on specific items for the next calendar year and includes additional questions covering the motivations for spending and firmographic information. Respondents have until July 31 to return the paper survey or complete it online. Responses are then tabulated and projected across the metalworking, plastics processing and additive manufacturing industries based on facility size.
